Lifespan Integration Therapy and Training FAQs

What is Lifespan Integration Therapy?

Lifespan Integration (LI) is a gentle, trauma-informed psychotherapy approach used to support trauma healing, nervous system regulation and long-term emotional integration. Lifespan Integration therapy helps the nervous system recognise that past experiences are over and that the person is now safe in the present. It works by linking memories across a client’s lifespan so that earlier, unresolved experiences can be integrated rather than repeatedly re-lived. LI therapy is effective for both developmental trauma and single-incident trauma, and is increasingly used within trauma-informed psychotherapy and body-based trauma therapy practice.

What issues can Lifespan Integration help with?

Lifespan Integration therapy is commonly used to support clients experiencing trauma, attachment difficulties, anxiety, depression, dissociation, developmental trauma and chronic emotional distress, including complex trauma and early relational wounding. Many people also use LI therapy as part of ongoing personal growth and emotional integration.

Is Lifespan Integration evidence-based?

Lifespan Integration is considered an evidence-informed trauma therapy approach used by psychotherapists and counsellors working with trauma and attachment. It draws on neuroscience, attachment theory and contemporary trauma research. Ongoing research and clinical studies continue to support the effectiveness of Lifespan Integration in trauma treatment and nervous system regulation.
